Special Events
JazzBoston organizes a number of special events each year that fall beyond the scope of our regular programing. Some, such as our Members and Friends Appreciation Party, have become repeat events. Others are built around one-time occurrences that provide an opportunity to connect members of Greater Boston's diverse jazz community who don't usually get together. Examples include our June 2011 Jazz Heroes party honoring Wally's owners Elynor Walcott and her sons, September 2011 Music Media Meet-and-Greet on the occasion of Jazz Journalists Association President Howard Mandel's visit to Boston for the Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival, and July 2012 open meeting for members and friends of Greater Boston's jazz community to plan a coordinated response to WGBH Radio's cutbacks in jazz programming.
Whether these special events are about thanking, celebrating, or connecting, they strengthen our ties as a community with shared interests and common goals. And the parties are always a lot of fun. Coming up next is our fifth annual Members and Friends Appreciation party.
Members and Friends Appreciation Party
Join JazzBoston on Tuesday, January 29, 6 - 8:30 pm, as we say thank you to all our members and friends for your support throughout the year and celebrate our seventh anniversary as an organization.
We’ll also raise a glass to this year’s Guest of Honor, Mark Harvey, in recognition of the roles he has played quietly but passionately on Boston’s jazz scene for the past 44 years: minister, musician, band leader, educator, and community builder. Click here for a fine portrait of Mark and the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra that appeared recently in the Arts Fuse.
Once again this year, our Appreciation Party will be hosted by Ryles, the popular Cambridge club owned and operated by the Mitchell/Wheeler family that has long been a destination for music and food lovers of all generations. You will enjoy the best in live jazz, complimentary appetizers from Ryles's outstanding culinary team, and exciting door prizes! (Cash bar.)
Don't miss this very special opportunity to meet some of the city's most talented musicians and mingle with other jazz lovers. RSVP by email before Jan. 24, and if you plan to bring a guest (one only, please), include her or his name.
If you're not a current JazzBoston member, join or renew by January 22 if youi'd like to attend. For a quick tour of the activities you support by joining JazzBoston, click here.
