JazzBoston is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with representation from every corner of the city’s diverse jazz community. Incorporated in January 2006 to bring together everyone who cares about the present and future of jazz in our city, we are the only jazz support organization in the Greater Boston area. If you are one of the people who create, perform, present, teach, promote, write about, broadcast, listen to, or just love jazz, we are here to work with you and serve you.
Mission and Approach
JazzBoston is dedicated to building and serving audiences for jazz music, fostering and expanding opportunities for jazz musicians, and raising Boston's profile as one of the world's great jazz cities. Educating audiences of all ages about the music is at the heart of our mission.
Our focus is on programs that achieve one or more of the following goals:
- Stimulate the general public's interest in jazz
- Educate audiences from early childhood on up about the music
- Bring the music into schools and underserved communities
- Enhance Boston's appeal as a destination for music lovers.
Collaborations and partnerships underlie everything we do. We believe connecting members of the city's jazz community with each other and with members of the broader arts community enhances everyone's ability to achieve the goals we all share. Our two highest priority programs, Jazz Week and Riffs & Raps, owe much of their success to this approach, and we use our extensive network almost daily to make smaller-scale connections among people and groups who do not normallly work together.
