How to Participate
We invite all Greater Boston musicians and presenters to be part of Jazz Week, nine days of jazz in and around the city from April 26 to May 4, planned collaboratively, produced independently, and marketed jointly.
Jazz Week aims to stimulate widespread interest in jazz while developing audiences, to highlight the vibrant jazz scene that exists in Boston while focusing on our many talented resident musicians, and to build Boston's reputation as an important jazz city while nurturing the Boston jazz community. All of this is an expression of JazzBoston's mission to spread the word about Boston's thriving jazz scene and keep it growing.
Jazz Week will be coordinated by JazzBoston, which will also provide overall promotion. Musicians and presenters are warmly encouraged to participate, assuming responsibility for the production of individual events, including all financial aspects, under the umbrella of Jazz Week. All events will be marketed, at no charge to you, through a joint promotional campaign using print, broadcast, and electronic media, including press releases, brochures, posters, radio announcements and interviews, websites, and blogs. In addition to posting all events on a special Jazz Week events schedule on this website, JazzBoston will produce and distribute 50,000 brochures and place 1,000 posters.
To participate in Jazz Week, we invite musicians to book club or concert dates and to think creatively about special themes or artistic approaches that might be featured. We invite presenters — club owners and managers as well as concert and other arts presenters — to book jazz into your performance space during this week. Then send your information to JazzBoston so that we can include it as part of our overall promotional campaign.
As a participant in Jazz Week, we ask that you join us in this collaborative effort on behalf of the Boston jazz community by helping to publicize the entire calendar of events — through notices in programs, announcements at events, displays of Jazz Week materials in your performance space, and links on your website — and by entering into the spirit of this community-based celebration of jazz in Boston.
To be included in the Jazz Week program brochure, we ask that you send us details of your event no later than March 10. If you book an event after that date, send us your information at any time and we will include it in the Jazz Week promotion on JazzBoston's website.
Please send your information to Don Carlson, Jazz Week co-chair, at dcarlson@jazzboston.org.
