Education is at the core of JazzBoston’s mission to build and serve audiences for jazz music — education for audiences of all ages, from childhood on up. Public School Partnerships is a long-term program to enhance the jazz curriculum in Boston's public school system. Planning is underway for a pilot project in the 2006-07 academic year with the Boston Arts Academy, the city's first and only full-inclusion public high school. Early support for this partnership was provided by The Boston Foundation.
The Boston Arts Academy "Beyond the Stage" Master Class Program will provide students with a unique look into the nonperforming side of the art and business of jazz. A series of guest speakers and field trips will expose students to the skills needed for an off-stage jazz career. The breadth of JazzBoston’s Advisory Council membership enables us to draw on professionals from a variety of fields. Sessions with club owners, presenters, publicists, music writers, and radio show hosts are all under consideration.
